5 reasons soundcloud is better than myspace.

So many people complain about how un-user friendly myspace is, yet most bands i know including mine use it. The bands have to use it because the promoters use it, it’s all about putting your music where people are going to hear it. In my opinion if everyone used Soundcloud instead of myspace the world would be a much better place, and here are my 5 reasons why….

1. Easily integrated – Soundcloud is possibly the easiest site to integrate with others. You can get the app on your Facebook page and when you post a link to one of your songs on your wall, it comes in a handy player that will open right there and then without having to open any new tabs, windows, or have to leave your current Facebook page.

2. Easily spread – There is a huge network of music fans on Soundcloud and you are able to send your track to any of them. Each user is equipped with what they call a box and you are able to drop your track in their box and have others drop theirs in yours. It’s a massive network of people who love sharing good music. What’s not to like?

3. Bloggers dream come true – I believe one of the most effective ways to get your music out there, is to have those with music blogs review your tracks or to just get people talking about them. People will always want to post the track along side the blog post and a link to your myspace page just doesn’t cut it anymore. With Soundcloud you can embed the player along with the post, meaning you can even listen to the track while you read . Perfect!

4. Options, options , options – Myspace is probably one of the most rigid sites you could ever upload your music on. With Soundcloud you can choose whether or not people can download your music for free and you can even have a handy link to buy your music on itunes built into the player.

5. Stats – The only thing i’m aware that you can look up on myspace is how many times your song has been played. To me this isn’t really useful information. You want to be able to find who is listening to your music and Soundcloud has this option. It displays very similar information to that of Google analytics in the sense that you get a much better view of who your demographic is. This information can be very useful when it comes to the success of your band.

If you’re still not convinced check out the video below, and as awful as myspace is, i still think we have a few years yet before it finally gets made redundant…but you can only hope.

Thanks for reading.
